Sunday School

SUNDAY SCHOOL is an integral and vital part of a Christian Church, engaged in educating the younger generation in Christian perspective, which is a worldwide ministry.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6. Children need to be trained to go in the way of the Lord. The root cause for the unrest of the present generation is lack of such training. Sunday School is the ideal place to train children in Christian values.

The Indian Pentecostal Church was the first in founding the Sunday school among the Pentecostal churches in India. Initially, the name given was Sunday School Samajam and later it was known as IPC Sunday School Association. In Kuwait, the First Pentecostal church was PCK-Pentecostal Church of Kuwait, which was formed back in 1966.  PCK Sunday School was the first Pentecostal Sunday School in Kuwait which was inaugurated in 1973 by the late pastor P.M. Philip during his visit to Kuwait.

The enthusiastic former members of PCK initially started the Sunday school and the classes were held at the residence of a PCK member in Al-Ayoub Building, Sharq with 35 children and 4 teachers.  In 1975, the Sunday school was shifted to the parsonage of (late) Pastor T. K. Philip, at Maidan Hawalli who was the resident pastor of PCK and the first Pentecostal Pastor in Kuwait. As the number of students increased, in 1978 Sunday School was shifted to the NECK - Activity Building.  A Branch of the Sunday School was started at Fahaheel in August 1986 with 9 teachers and 90 students. The Lord blessed our Sunday School and increased the strength of the students every year and it had reached to 135 in 1990. There are many who have laboured for PCK Sunday School ministry as Head Masters, Teachers, Singing Session leaders, well –wishers who left Kuwait and are continuing in the Lord’s ministry in different parts of the world.

Our Sunday school activities were disrupted due to the Iraqi invasion in August 1990. After the liberation, many of the teachers could not come back. Those who returned initiated to resume the Sunday school. By the grace of God, He enabled to restart the Sunday school in February 1992 with 15 Students and 3 teachers (Bros. Mathew Chandy, K.M. Abraham and Sis. Shirley Mathew) The regular classes were conducted at the Parsonage in Abbassiya. As the strength of the students increased every year, the Sunday School had to be shifted to different places.

Present Sunday school

The Lord answered the sincere prayers of the pastor and the church and blessed us with a spacious place, which is named “Rehoboth Hall”. From September 2008, Sunday school was shifted to Rehoboth Hall.  The Lord who would not despise small beginnings has blessed our Sunday school greatly.  At present we have 38 Teachers and 250 + students from Pre-LKG to Class XII. Sunday school is conducted on every Friday from 7.30 AM to 9.00 AM.

The first half an hour is set apart for singing session which is lead by worship leaders and supported by the other Sunday school teachers..  The rest of the session is devoted for teaching scripture lessons and memory verses in separate classes.  We follow the Syllabus prepared by the IPC Sunday School Association, for all Classes.  The examination for Classes III – X are conducted by the PYPA & SUNDAY SCHOOL Joint Council of IPC Kuwait Region.
